Its Time To Get 'Pretty Muddy" for Cancer Research!

Exciting Happenings!

On Sunday , Christine, Annabel (Christine's sister) and I went on an
adventure  to Finsbury Park to get 'PRETTY MUDDY!'

Pretty Muddy is in simple terms, a Race For life event that raises money for Cancer Research.
The event consists of a 5K run with assault course activities thrown into the mix.
This assault course entails climbing, crawling, rolling, running, about in MUD!
For Charity Obviously! & To raise awareness of how much Cancer affects us ALL!

We were all super excited about this event which took place near Seven Sisters in London.
The plan was originally to get the train up and back, so we would have been totally covered in MUD on the way back. Thankfully we didn’t have to prepare for (as many) odd looks on the way home, as Annie’s husband drove us home!

All 3 of us were running for special people, I personally (Orla), ran for my Dad.
My dad was diagnosed with Bowel and Liver Cancer back in 2006.
He was a total WARRIOR! And beat Cancer in 2008!

We as a family had lots of ups and downs, the cancer going away, then coming back and
spreading to his Liver. But luckily all of us had awesome support around us!!
(Christine & her family obviously big support)

Christine and Annabel are taking part in Pretty Muddy for a number of family members who haven't been so lucky, and have passed away through the years due to Cancer. Only last year a close family member Jo was taken from the family. This illness has touched each of us in one way or another and highlights just why these types of fundraising events are so vital.

I was filming the day on a GoPro, so we have footage of the day & the RUN!
which is all very exciting indeed!

Check our channel for the video of the day in a day or two!

Mini Make Up Haul.....

Monday was pay day, and what better way to celebrate than by popping in to Boots and buying a few essential Autumn make up bits! Since they had a 3 for 2 offer on, it would definitely have been rude not to!

We only picked up three pieces, but they have been on our wish lists for some time and we decided that October was the month to splash out and treat ourselves! Expect to see these in a YouTube video soon!

So! What’s in the mini haul we hear you ask? Well , let us tell you!

Mini Haul (Hooray)!

Bourjois Paris Bronzing Powder

This is a product that we’ve been seeing EVERYWHERE lately and have been desperate to try out for some time (not just because it looks and smells like chocolate pieces)! This is a really pretty product, it is very soft and goes on really well. The colour looks very natural on and blends beautifully for a flawless sun kissed look. We're currently using this to contour on our cheeks which is a favourite use for this product. It’s also the perfect colour for this season.

Barry M Ultra Moisturising Lip Paint in Black Cherry

This one is definitely a more classic Orla shade, but I picked this up to see how it would work with the autumn colour palette that I’m trying out. It was a concern that this colour might be too dark but once it’s on it actually works really well with fair skin tones. The product itself goes on well and stays put. There haven’t been any issues with it smudging or stains being left on a glass after a few sips of a drink! For just over £4, you really can’t go wrong with this. Definitely recommended if you are trying out a new shade and don’t want to pay MAC prices for something you’re not sure you’ll be comfortable pulling off.

Rimmel London Colour Rush Lip Balm in On Fire

This is such a pretty colour once it’s on. I wasn’t 100% sold on it when I bought it but the more I’ve played around, the more and more I’ve loved it. It is a great subtle lip colour to go with a more natural look. It’s also a fab moisturiser which is a real bonus as we come in to the season of chapped lips! This is definitely a product that I’ll be looking to buy again in all shades!

Thanks for reading, we hope you found this interesting and helpful! Let us know if you have tried these or if you give them a go after reading this post! Comment, like, subscribe and don’t be strangers!

Twice Upon A Dress......

People often joke that we are the ultimate double act and are often mistaken for being related…..in some cases even asked if we are twins!

While that would be fun, we can confirm that we are definitely not twins……although, we do sometimes have moments of ‘Twin Telepathy’. An example of this comes in the form of Orla’s 21st birthday party.

We were organising what we hoped would be the vintage themed event of the year. We traipsed around venue after venue looking for exactly the right place. After a good month of looking, I had a VERY excited phone call from Orla explaining that she’d found it! We raced over, took a look around and arranged to book the venue, not wanting to waste another minute.

Once the venue was sorted we moved straight on to planning décor. Orla had some amazing ideas and we spent a long time figuring out how to make things fit and work in the room. With all of these types of things to consider, it wasn’t really until the day of the party that either of us discussed what we had planned to wear.

The day of the party arrived and we had planned to see a preview screening of Monsters University in the morning in Central London. We had my nephews in tow and the afternoon turned in to a bit of a rush. We still needed to get over to Guildford to pick up the cake and decorate the room!

We nipped to my house, dropped my nephews off and I started packing a bag ready to leave. Hanging in my room, as it had been for the past week, the dress I had bought from eBay a month earlier, ready to be taken to the car. Orla came upstairs to see how close to being ready I was and instantly spotted my dress…. ‘Is that what you’re wearing tonight?’ I sort of assumed she hated it by the look on her face, which would be a shocker in itself because I think I have a relatively good eye when it comes to what Orla will see as a fashion disaster! When I told her that I had planned to wear it, the colour pretty much drained from her face…..Orla had bought an identical dress a few weeks before on eBay! The only major differences were that hers was slightly shorter with sleeves!

Exhibit B - Christine

We had to get going or we would be too late picking up the cake, we quickly pulled together a different outfit and accessories for me to wear and away we went. We took the original too, just in case.

Considering that this style wasn't particularly on trend in July, it does seem rather funny that we both chose identical dresses! It all worked out in the end! Orla wore my dress because it was slightly longer, and she obvs looked like the Belle of the ball in it! I wore my fave red floaty number and a great night was had by all!

It’s almost like our twin powers were working overtime - they somehow knew that Orla wouldn’t be 100% happy with her dress on the night…..Sometimes the twin telepathy is handy!

Orla looking AMAZE!

Charity Begins At Home But Should Not End There......

Something that Orla and I love doing is organising parties and events. We love every aspect of it from start to finish, but generally enjoy the decorating part the most! We’ll start with an idea, which will usually grow and grow until it’s pretty much the most expensive unachievable idea in the entire world! You think that London 2012 Olympics was impressive? Sit in on one of our brainstorms and it will look like a local playground compared! Once we have the basic theme and huge idea, we then scale it down until it becomes a reality. This is why we’ve often been described as ‘blue sky thinkers’. (We’ve also been told that we are exhausting to listen to, but that’s another story). In a nut shell - anything is possible…..just maybe not on the same scale that you initially hoped for!

Tomorrow evening we will be hosting at a charity event for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. My sister wanted to hold a quiz night to fundraise after a family friend passed away whilst under GOSH’s care. The hospital were fantastic and worked endlessly to ensure that the best care was given at all times. We were asked to help decorate and source raffle prizes for the event, which we have been doing over the last 2 months.

So! Time has absolutely flown and tomorrow is the big day! We have had raffle prizes donated from left right and centre and have great things up for grabs! We’re hoping to raise £500, and whatever we raise is also going to be doubled by Disney! As I’m sure you can imagine, we are working tirelessly now to ensure that everything comes together and goes without a hitch! There have been all hands on deck with people doing bunting making to decorate the hall, multiple meetings to arrange room layout, attire, and absolutely everything you could possibly imagine!

Getting raffle prizes together has been a challenging job to say the least. We’ve spent many weekends, evenings and lunchtimes going to local businesses to ask for support and help and sent more emails to companies than I care to count! It felt a little like a scene from a film with a montage of doors being closed in our faces at one point. One local retailer (who will remain nameless) even shouted at us when we went in to tell them about the event. Charming!

Last night, Orla and I took a late night trip to Kingston to collect one of the final raffle prizes from the Rose Theatre! It was an hour and a half round trip and it’s fair to say that we were exhausted after an already busy day of work and filming some of our very first YouTube video! (More about that in the next few days)!!

Enjoying a hard earned diet coke in the car en route home from Kingston!

All of the hard work seems to be paying off now though as we have over £900 worth of prizes to raffle and over 100 people due to join us on the night! We’ll be sure to take pictures and update you on how much we raised and how the event goes!
